If you have a child you know this song and it’s many variations. It can be very annoying, but makes for a super cute birthday party theme! Not only is Harrison obsessed with the song baby shark but he just loves all things shark in general so I knew this would be a winner for his second birthday party theme.
Where To Begin When Planning A Party
Whenever I am planning a party I head straight to Etsy or Pinterest for ideas. If you are a baby shark expert like me (this is embarrassing to admit), you know there are two versions – super simple songs or pinkfong. I wanted to make sure that all the decor coordinated so I chose the super simple song version and tried to stick with those graphics. I created a vision board which was essentially just a digital collage in word of all the decor that I wanted to have at the party. It really helped to be able to see everything at a glance and also kept me from going overboard.
Baby Shark Gender Reveal!
Since all of our friends and family were going to be in town for Harrison’s birthday we took the opportunity to have a gender reveal as well! (I’m due with baby #2 in August). I figured he’s only two, he doesn’t care if his little sibling steals the show for a bit.
I made this chalkboard so that everyone at the party could vote on their guess. As you can see, the majority voted girl and they were RIGHT!
Baby Shark Birthday Party Cake
I custom ordered a two-tier cake from Sweet Melissa and I could not have been more impressed with how it turned out. I literally went to the bakery and told her I wanted a simple white buttercream cake because I already had the cake topper and I didn’t want it to be too busy. She suggested adding blue ombre and some bubbles and THIS is what she came up with!!
The icing was even glittery. I know I could make my own cake but I think it’s worth the expense if you aren’t spending much on catering or a venue. The cupcakes and cake pops were homemade so that was a huge savings as well. I found the little cupcake stands at Marshalls, they came in a pack of four. I’ve linked some similar ones that I found on Amazon and Stein Mart.
Baby Shark Birthday Party Food
I kept the food pretty simple but I did add some fun shark shaped and number 2 peanut butter & jelly sandwiches by using cookie cutters. It worked best to make the sandwiches, put them in the freezer for a couple hours, and then cut them out. Don’t go overboard, just make a few. The rest can be good old triangle shaped.
The fruit and donut kabobs were a hit with the kids. I just bought a pack of munchkins from dunkin’ donuts and skewered them with pineapple and strawberries. I also cut up celery, carrot and cucumber sticks for the kids and put them in single serving cups. There were a lot more veggies leftover than donuts but at least I provided a healthy option!
One of my favorite decor items was the DIY balloon garland I purchased from OneStylishParty. I ordered the 10 foot garland with the balloon pump. Harrison and I had a lot of fun putting it together and we left it up for a couple weeks because it was too cute to take down. Honestly, if you know someone else having a party the weekend after it could 100% be reused.
Of course whenever you have a party with children invited it’s important to have some activities planned. I ordered printable coloring sheets and custom stickers which seemed to keep the kids busy at times. We also borrowed a bounce house from a neighbor and lucked out with great weather. I think this is a perfect investment for any gathering, the kids always have a blast and it’s quick and easy to set up. I am considering purchasing this one from amazon but I am sure you could find one secondhand as well.
Let me know if you are planning a baby shark birthday party, would love to see your photos! This theme would work great for a boy or a girl, any age. Now I’m off to write thank you notes 😬 – does anyone else procrastinate as much as I do on these?!
