.. Awesome Since 2017 ..
I was super fortunate to team up with The Party Heist for Harrison’s Three-Rex birthday party! The Party Heist is an event planning company local to DE, MD, PA and NJ but they also have the CUTEST Pinterest-worthy party supplies.
Sadly, coronavirus crashed the party and we had to celebrate quarantine style. Here’s how to make the most of your party despite a global pandemic.

Harrison’s shirt is from Amazon but it’s currently sold out. I’ve linked a couple other cute ideas from Etsy here.
Send Evites
So I had no idea that you could upload your own custom design and send out a digital invitation via evite or paperless post. This is a game changer because I love to have my invitation match with the theme but I was never thrilled with the options on their sites. If you’re doing a ZOOM call or a birthday drive-by this is the perfect way to ‘invite’ your guests.
Make Your Own Birthday Cake
For the past two years, I’ve ordered a cake for Harrison’s birthday. One, because we usually have a ton of people here and we are busy prepping all the other food and decorations and I didn’t want the stress of trying to make a cake. Two, I think it’s a really great focal point and a fun surprise to see how the baker puts it all together. Last year’s Baby Shark party (and cake by Sweet Melissa) was a HUGE hit, you can check it out here!
Now if you aren’t going to have any people at your party and you’re stuck inside what better time than now to experiment and make your own cake. You don’t have to worry about how many people it will feed and if it turns out terrible then who cares! It will still taste amazing no matter what. Luckily my mom is a baking expert and she drove up from South Carolina to be here for the party before it had to be cancelled. I had a lot of fun making it and now I think I need to invest in some essential cake decorating tools.
We used a recipe from Baking With Blondie. She uses regular cake mixes from the store and doctors them up to make them taste amazing and homemade. You can find her recipes in her cookbook and on her blog and instagram.
We improvised and used what we had for the decorations. The top of the cake is crumbled s’mores Girl Scout cookies and marshmallows. I cut the dinosaur footprints out of rolled gum paste that I already had. If you’ve never used gum paste, it’s an edible sugar dough similar to fondant but it dries hard. The toy dinosaurs to top the cake were Harrison’s of course!
Can’t Have a Birthday without Balloons
I am a big fan of the balloon garland, kids love balloons and it makes for a great photo backdrop. Then you realize getting a good pic of a three year-old is basically impossible even if you’re bribing him with cake. The balloon garland was provided by The Party Heist, the green leaves were a cute addition and very easy to add using the glue dots provided. I found the Three-Rex balloons on Amazon.
Don’t skip the decorations just because there’s no guests. You may simply need less decorations. All of the dino paper products are from The Party Heist. The ROAR napkins were my favorite.
Did you host a quarantine birthday this year? What else did you do to make it special?
